PBA News 2018: Alaska Aces pounced Meralco Bolts, 80-72 to register its first victory in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup this Friday at the MOA Arena in Pasay. Mike Harris starred for the Aces with his 23 markers and 15 boards, while returning Chris Banchero had 13 points, 6 caroms and 5 dimes.

Notes:

Banchero came back from a personal leave of absence (due to personal emergency) to lead the Aces anew. The Alaska franchise emerged victorious even if they traded away their star forward Calvin Abueva to the Phoenix FuelMasters.

➤ Reliable Allen Durham backstopped the Bolts with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 dishes, while Chris Newsome made 14 goals and 7 rebounds.

➤ Alaska is now 1-0 in the Governors’ Cup, while Meralco fell to a regrettable 1-2 slate.

PBA News 2018: Allein Maliksi powered Blackwater Elite over Talk ‘N Text KaTropa, 104-98 in the ongoing 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup at MOA Arena this Friday in Pasay. Maliksi made 28 points and 9 boards, while reinforcement Henry Walker also added 23 buckets, 14 caroms and 3 swats.

Notes:

➤ This is the very first time that Blackwater beat the TNT KaTropa in PBA history.

Terrence Romeo paced the defeated Talk ‘N Text with 24 markers, while Stacy Davis made 23 goals and 16 boards.

➤ The Elite, who didn’t have Poy Erram due to the Asian Games, will next face San Miguel on Wednesday September 5 at the Araneta Coliseum.

PBA D-League Finals News 2018: Go for Gold Scratchers captured the Foundation Cup crown by beating Che’Lu Bar and Grill Revellers, 102-92, in the 2018 PBA D-League Finals this Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena. Gab Banal played with MVP-like numbers as he paced the Scratchers with 31 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, while Matt Salem added 15 buckets.

Notes:

Kris Porter also contributed stellar numbers for Go for Gold as he finished with 14 markers and 4 caroms.

Chris Bitoon consoled the losing Che’Lu with his 20 points, while Jayson Melano chipped-in 17 markers and 8 boards.

Banal poured 21 points at the half but got replaced before the third canto due to leg cramps. However, he defied odds as he came back with barely five minutes left in the fourth to lift Go for Gold over a determined Che’Lu squad.

➤ Go for Gold finished the Finals skirmish with a 3-2 series victory over the Revellers.

PBA News 2018: Eugene Phelps monster game helped Phoenix overpower Columbian, 113-107, in the eliminations of the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup this Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum. Phelps hauled 50 points, 17 rebounds and 8 blocks, while newly-traded Calvin Abueva chipped-in 12 buckets, 13 boards and 3 swats.

Notes:

Phelps registered his third 50-point performance in his PBA career.

Phoenix also got stellar numbers from Jason Perkins who had 11 goals, 5 rebounds and 5 dimes, while high-flyer JC Intal made 11 points.

➤ Local Jerramy King starred for Columbian Dyip with his 27 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals, while Akeem Wright dropped 25 markers, 14 caroms and 6 dishes.

“The Beast” Abueva played his first game in the Governors’ Cup after being traded by Alaska to Phoenix during the Commissioner’s Cup. Calvin also swatted away a potential game winning trey by King in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter with score at 109-107.

Dyip is still winless in the Governors’ Cup, while Phoenix began its campaign on a good note at 1-0 slate.

PBA News 2018: Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok torched the NLEX Road Warriors, 102-72, to start its 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup eliminations campaign with a big win this Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum. Import Romeo Travis led the Pambansang Manok with 21 points, 13 boards and 3 assists, while guard Mark Barroca added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.

➤ The Hotshots built a huge margin of 19 points in the first canto, and soared to an insurmountable 25 points lead by the end of the half.

➤ Semi-injured reinforcement Olu Ashaoulu backstopped NLEX with near double-double of 21 buckets, 9 caroms and 3 dimes, while Juami Tiongson made 8 markers.

Magnolia is missing the services of explosive guard Paul Lee Dalistan who is in the thick of 2018 Asian Games basketball tournament.

Travis last played for the Alaska Aces in 2015.

Che'Lu defeats Go for Gold, 88-81

D-League Finals News 2018: Che’Lu Bar and Grill Revellers defeated Go for Gold Scratchers, 88-81, in Game 4 of the PBA D-League Foundation Cup Finals 2018. Crowned MVP Jeff Viernes backstopped the Revellers with 18 points, while Jessie Collado added 16 markers.

Notes:

➤ Gab Banal paced the losing Scratchers with 20 buckets and 10 rebounds,  as Matthew Salem and Rey Publico also chipped-in 14 markers apiece.

➤ Six Che’Lu players finished the game with 10 points or more.

➤ Viernes is the first ex-PBA cager in history to have won a PBA D-League MVP trophy.

Asian Games News 2018: China narrowly escaped Gilas Pilipinas, 82-80, to conclude their Group D battle in the Palembang Asian Games 2018 this Tuesday in Jakarta Indonesia. Zhou Qi led China with 25 points, 12 rebounds and 7 blocks, while Wang Zhelin added 13 buckets and 7 boards.

Notes:

Jordan Clarkson led the mighty Filipino offensive but fell short due to cramps in the waning seconds. He finished with 28 monstrous markers, 8 caroms and 4 assists. Clarkson also made 5 of 13 three point shots.

Christian Stanhardinger also contributed 18 points and 8 caroms, while Stanley Pringle made 14 buckets and 4 rebounds.

China out-rebounded the Philippines, 35 boards against 31. However, the Pinoys shot better from the rainbow country making 11 of 34 (32%) three point bombs, against the Great Wall’s 7 of 29 (24%) treys.

The Philippine basketball team will next face South Korea in the upcoming Quarterfinal round.

PBA 2018: Olu Ashaolu once again lifted the NLEX Road Warriors, this time over NorthPort Batang Pier, 123-107, this Sunday evening at the Ynares Center. Ashaolu paced NLEX with 27 points and 13 rebounds, while veteran marksman Larry Fonacier and former SWU star Mark Tallo contributed 14 markers apiece.

Notes:

➤ Despite the monstrous offense of Ashaolu, the rest of NLEX provided the necessary firepower as six players also finished in double figures.

➤ NorthPort import Rashad Woods delivered the goods for the losing NorthPort with 42 buckets, 12 boards and 8 assists. However, his awesome effort fell short as NorthPort lost by 16 points opposite a team with an injured reinforcement. Mo Tautuaa led the Batang Pier locals with 20 points, 12 caroms and 4 dimes contribution.

Batang Pier is missing the services of Stanley Pringle who’s presently playing in the Asian Games, and also Sean Anthony. NLEX, meanwhile, did not have Asi Taulava and coach Yeng Guiao who are also in Jakarta for the Asiad.

PBA News 2018: Olu Ashaolu led the NLEX Road Warriors over sister team TNT KaTropa, 103-90, to start their eliminations stint in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup this Friday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig. The NLEX import exploded with big 33 points, 23 rebounds and 3 assists, while Mark Tallo did not disappoint with his 16 buckets.

Notes:

➤ NLEX veteran Larry Fonacier meanwhile dropped 14 goals and 4 boards, while new Road Warrior Philip Paniamogan impressed with 11 markers.

➤ Talk ‘N Text relied mainly on Terrence Romeo who made 27 points, 5 caroms and 3 dishes, while Jayson Castro chipped-in 15 points, 5 assists and 2 steals.

➤ KaTropa import Michael Glover was limited to a forgettable 11 markers and 15 boards.

NLEX won the court-side battle sans coach Yeng Guiao who’s currently preoccupied with the Gilas Pilipinas in the Jakarta Asian Games.

PBA News 2018: Allen Durham lifted the Meralco Bolts over Columbian Dyip, 109-106, to begin it’s campaign in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup eliminations this Friday at Ynares Arena in Pasig. Durham registered monstrous numbers to lead the Bolts with 26 points, 20 rebounds and 9 assists, while guard Baser Amer added 23 buckets, 8 boards, and 6 assists.

Notes:

Mike Tolomia also added 14 points for Meralco, while Cliff Hodge made 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks.

➤ Import Akeem Wright paced the defeated Dyip with a double-double of 30 markers, 14 caroms and 4 assists, while Jerramy King contributed 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 dimes.

Wright appeared to be injured in the closing seconds of the court skirmish as he was replaced abruptly with two ticks left in the game.
