Magnolia secures top-seed, mangles TNT, 116-103

PBA News 2018: Magnolia Hotshots secured the top-seed as it cracked Talk ‘N Text KaTropa, 116-103, in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup this Friday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo. Low-post operator Ian Sangalang paced the Hotshots with his 28 markers and 6 boards while Mark Barroca chipped-in 21 points.

Notes:

➤ Ace guard Paul Lee also added 19 points, 8 dimes and 8 caroms for Magnolia, while import Romeo Travis made 18 buckets.

Magnolia outmuscled TNT in the paint as they hauled 62 rebounds against TNT’s 38, and also shot better from the trey territory making 11 of 24 (45%) three points to KaTropa’s 12 of 35 (34%).

Terrence Romeo starred for the losing KaTropa as he dropped 23 markers, while Troy Rosario contributed 21 points. Reinforcement and former Hotshots import Marcus Blakely had a triple-double as he registered 17 goals, 18 rebounds, and 11 dishes.

➤ National mainstay Jayson Castro who returned from bone spurs foot injury managed to add 13 points for Talk ‘N Text.

➤ League leader Magnolia (8-2) just booked a twice-to-beat advantage as they enter the conference quarterfinals. Meanwhile, TNT who dropped to 4-6, is now in a must-win situation as they battle Ginebra on Sunday, November 4 for a possible entry into Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.

PBA News 2018: NLEX Road Warriors outlasted the Alaska Aces in overtime, 116-110, to continue their campaign in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup this Friday at Ynares Center in Antipolo. Import Aaron Fuller dropped a ferocious double-double as he made 42 buckets and 22 caroms, while JR Quiñahan added 15 points and 9 boards.

Notes:

➤ The Aces were still in the lead, 110-109 with barely a minute remaining, but Quiñahan‘s dagger trey elevated the Road Warriors to surge ahead 112-110. He later sealed the win for NLEX by securing four clutch free throw conversions.

➤ NLEX led in the rebounds department with 57 caroms total compared to Alaska’s 52, they also moved the ball better with 31 assists against the Aces’ 27.

➤ Reinforcement Mike Harris whipped-up his own double-double for the losing Aces as he dropped 35 points and 26 rebounds, while muscle-man Vic Manuel chipped-in 22 markers and 5 caroms.

➤ NLEX is now 5-5 in the Governors’ Cup and is one victory away from entering the quarterfinals, while the Aces dropped to second place with a 7-3 win-loss record.

PBA News 2018: Alaska Aces hammered Rain or Shine Elastopainters, 106-89 in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup this Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum. Reinforcement NBA veteran Mike Harris powered the Aces with his gargantuan 39 points and 25 caroms, while guard Chris Banchero added 16 points, 13 dimes, and 7 boards.

➤ Vic Manuel and Simon Enciso also contributed identical 16 points each for the Aces.

➤ Beau Belga paced the losing Elastopainters with his 20 points, while import Terrence Watson (replaced J’Nathan Bullock), had a regrettable performance as he made only 10 buckets and 13 rebounds.

➤ Alaska is now knocking at the top of the Governors’ Cup standings with a 4-1 record, while ROS is still winless after three games (0-3).

PBA News 2018: Magnolia Hotshots pierced hapless Columbian Dyip, 113-95, courtesy of Romeo Travis‘ monster performance in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup this Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum. Travis finished with 32 points, 14 boards, and 7 dimes, while Mark Barroca and Paul Lee added in 17 and 13 buckets respectively.

Notes:

Ian Sangalang also contributed 11 points for the Hotshots.

Jackson Corpuz led the losing Dyip with his 20 markers and 9 caroms, while reinforcement Akeem Wright made 19 points and 8 boards.

Columbian is now practically eliminated from contention after succumbing to their 7th loss. They are now 0-7 in the Governors’ Cup. The Hotshots, on the other hand, are now at the top of the standings together league-leader Barangay Ginebra with an identical 5-1 record.

➤ Magnolia will next battle Blackwater Elite on Wednesday, October 10 at the Cuneta Astrodome.

PBA News 2018: Talk ‘N Text KaTropa cuffed the win-less NorthPort Batang Pier, 104-102, in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup this Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum. Leading the TNT charge were Terrence Romeo who scored 25 points and 8 dimes, and import Marcus Blakely who added 23 markers and 11 caroms.

Notes:

NorthPort was on its’ way to a sure victory after leading by as much as 23 points (63-37) in the 2nd quarter, and by 18 (95-77) in the fourth. Batang Pier failed to contain the TNT uprising in the 4th who rode a 19-1 unanswered blast, to tie the game 96-all.

Troy Rosario, Jericho Cruz, and RR Pogoy all contributed 12, 11 and 10 points each respectively for the KaTropa.

➤ TNT is missing the services of Jayson Castro due to injury.

Rashad Woods paced the losing NorthPort with 19 and 00 caroms, while Stanley Pringle, Mo Tautuaa and Jonathan Grey all chipped-in 18 points each respectively.

Talk ‘N Text is now 4-4 in the Governors’ Cup, while NorthPort is languishing at the bottom of the standings with a regrettable 0-6 slate.

PBA News 2018: Magnolia Hotshots shocked the San Miguel Beermen, 109-108, courtesy of Paul Lee‘s monster game in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup this Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum. Lee backstopped the Hotshots with his 28 points and the game-winner with 34 seconds left and the Beermen leading 108-107.

Notes:

➤ Import Romeo Travis also added 18 markers and 12 boards for the Hotshots, while post-operator Ian Sangalang made 16 points and 8 rebounds. Sangalang also swatted the potential game-changer layup from Alex Cabagnot in the waning seconds of the fourth.

➤ San Miguel’s new import Kevin Murphy top-scored with 37 points and 10 rebounds, while Christian Standhardinger also added 27 goals and 16 boards.

➤ SMB did not have Junemar Fajardo due to injury (shin fracture).

Magnolia is now 4-1 in the Governors’ Cup, while San Miguel dropped to a 2-3 win-loss slate.

Ginebra slips past Phoenix, 101-99

PBA News 2018: Barangay Ginebra slipped past the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 101-99, in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup this Saturday at the Xavier University Gym in Cagayan de Oro City. Celebrated import Justin Brownlee helped the Gin Kings salvage the game late with his 34 points and 15 rebounds, while Joe Devance also added 15 markers and 4 boards.

Notes:

Scottie Thompson also posted stellar numbers for the Gin Kings with his 12 buckets and 14 caroms, while LA Tenorio chipped-in 10 points and 5 assists.

➤ It was a seesaw battle as there were several lead changes up until 8:19 in the 4th with Phoenix leading 87-85, but Ginebra broke out in clutch time to snatch the victory. Phoenix had a chance to win the game later with 10 ticks left and Barangay Ginebra leading with two, 101-99, but Matthew Wright lost the ball to Brownlee.

Wright led Phoenix with his 27 buckets and 4 rebounds, while Eugune Phelps was limited to 23 points and 13 boards. Calvin Abueva and Jason Perkins also registered vital numbers and scored 17 and 13 points apiece.

➤ The Gin Kings did not have injured stars Greg Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar, and Sol Mercado.

➤ Ginebra is now the league leader in the 2018 Governors’ Cup as they surged to 5-1 while bumping-off the Fuel Masters who dropped to a 5-2 win-loss slate.

➤ Ginebra is missing key players Japeth Aguilar, Sol Mercado and Greg Slaughter. San Miguel for its’ part also lost Junemar Fajardo to injury (stress fracture).

➤ The losing Beermen got respectable numbers from Christian Stanhardinger who dropped 25 points and 10 rebounds. Veteran swingman Arwind Santos also chipped-in 22 buckets and 8 rebounds.

➤ Ginebra now sports a 4-1 win-loss slate, while San Miguel dropped to another loss for a 2-2 record in the Governors’ Cup.

PBA News 2018: Phoenix Fuel Masters cracked the Magnolia Hotshots, 95-82, in the ongoing in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup this Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum. Import Eugene Phelps led the Fuel Masters with his double-double 36 markers and 20 boards, while gunner Matthew Wright added 13 points.

Notes:

Phoenix imposed a towering defensive umbrella as they made 11 block shots compared to the Hotshots’ 2 swats. They also shot better from the field with 33 of 71 field goals made (46%), while Magnolia had 29 of 90 (32%) clip.

➤ Reinforcement Romeo Travis paced the losing Magnolia with 28 points and 19 rebounds, while Ian Sangalang, Jio Jalalon, and Mark Barroca all finished with identical 11 points.

➤ Phoenix is now 2nd in the Governors’ Cup standings at 5-1, while Magnolia suffered it’s lone loss and dropped to a 2-1 slate.

PBA News 2018: Talk ‘N Text rips Rain or Shine, 110-104 this Saturday evening in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup in Passi City Iloilo. Import Marcus Blakely paced TNT with his 26 points and 14 rebounds, while RR Pogoy contributed 14 buckets.

Notes:

Talk ‘N Text deployed a well-balanced offense as they registered 27 assists against 16 total by the Elastopainters, and shot better from the 2-point clip with 22 of 42 goals (52%) compared to ROS’ 23 of 48 (47%).

Bong Ravena debuted as head coach for the KaTropa to replace outgoing coach Nash Racela.

J’Nathan Bullock led the losing ROS with 23 markers and 5 boards, while James Yap added 21 points and 6 boards.

➤ TNT is now 3-4 in the Governors’ Cup, while Rain or Shine dropped to 0-1 after losing their opener.
