Asian Qualifiers 2018: Gilas Pilipinas whacked Chinese Taipei, 91-73, in the ongoing Asian Qualifiers 2018 for the FIBA World Cup 2019 this Friday in Taiwan. June Mar Fajardo led the Filipinos with 23 buckets and 4 rebounds, while Jayson Castro and Terrence Romeo contributed 15 and 14 points each.

➤ Gilas bucked a slow start to overturn the game against Taiwan. Gilas trailed Chinese Taipei by as much as 8 points in the first half before crawling back to snatch the lead to 37-36 courtesy of Blatche’s lay-up with 2:16 remaining.

Quincy Davis led Taiwan NT with 17 points and 7 rebounds, while Lu Cheng-Ju sniped with 4 of 8 treys to drop 13 markers before being limited by Gabe Norwood‘s defense. Center Tseng Wen Ting was a non-factor as he was saddled with early foul troubles.

➤ The Philippine Basketball Team is already assured of a spot in the second round of the qualifiers, but are battling for the first place in Group B standings. Taiwan, meanwhile, is in a precarious bottom position as Japan NT upset Australia earlier in the day.
