UAAP News 2018: The De La Salle Green Archers ravaged the UST Growling Tigers, 110-69 in the UAAP Season 81 Men’s basketball this Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo. Aljun Melecio wowed with season-high 22 markers and 6 dimes for DLSU, while import Mark Dyke contributed 16 points and 6 caroms.

Notes:

➤ The Green Archers led by as big as 48 points in the fourth quarter with a minute remaining. The victory was the second of DLSU over former coach Aldin Ayo, now the mentor of the Tigers.

Alvin Caracut and Jollo Go also contributed 15 and 14 points for La Salle respectively.

➤ Guard Marvin Lee paced the defeated Tigers with his 26 points, while CJ Cansino chipped-in 14 markers.

➤ DLSU is now at solo third place in Season 81 standings with 7-4 slate, while UST dropped to 4th place with a 5-6 record.

La Salle demolishes Ayo's UST, 99-72

UAAP News 2018: De La Salle Green Archers demolished Ayo’s UST Growling Tigers, 99-72 in the 2018 UAAP Season 81 Men’s basketball this Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena. Justine Baltazar starred for DLSU with a double-double of 22 buckets and 10 boards, while Aljun Melecio contributed 19 markers.

Notes:

Andrei Caracut also chipped-in 13 points for DLSU.

➤ Renzo Subido led the defeated UST with his 16 points and 2 rebounds, while Zach Huang also made 13 markers and 6 caroms.

➤ La Salle is now sporting a 3-2 record, while UST went down to 1-4 in UAAP Season 81.

➤ It was the first meeting between La Salle and coach Aldin Ayo after the latter left the Green Archers. La Salle lost the Season 80 championship to Ateneo after winning the trophy in 2016. DLSU is now being coached by former Ayo deputy Louie Gonzalez.

➤ The Green Archers lost several players together with Ayo to various reasons this season. Former MVP Ben Mbala left to play abroad, while Ricci Rivero, Brent Paraiso, and Prince Rivero all transferred to different UAAP teams. Meanwhile, Ayo opted to mentor the Growling Tigers for Season 81.

FEU Tamaraws thumps DLSU Green Archers, 68-61

UAAP News 2018: FEU Tamaraws thumped the DLSU Green Archers, 68-61 in the 2018 UAAP Season 81 basketball at the MOA Arena this Sunday in Pasay. Arvin Tolentino lifted the Tamaraws with his 13 markers, while Kenneth Tuffin copped 11 points for the Morayta-based dribblers.

Notes:

Far Eastern University trailed to the Archers in the third by as much as 7 points, but the Tamaraws balanced offense halted DLSU‘s advance.

Santi Santillan led the losing De La Salle University with his 19 points, while Aljun Melecio added 11 buckets.

➤ The Archers are playing their first UAAP game minus coach Aldin Ayo who now mentors the UST Growling Tigers. They also lost ace star Ricci Rivero who will play for the UP Maroons next year. Additionally, former DLSU players Brent Paraiso and Prince Rivero will come back to play for UST Growling Tigers next season.

NU Bulldogs mauls UST Tigers, 75-70

UAAP 2018: The National University Bulldogs mauled the University of Santo Tomas Tigers, 75-70, in the opener of the 2018 UAAP Season 81 basketball this Saturday at the MOA Arena in Pasay. The brothers duo of Dave and Shaun Ildefonso lifted the Bulldogs over the newly-mentored Tigers coached by Aldin Ayo. Dave starred for NU with 19 buckets, 7 boards and 4 dimes, while brother Shaun also made 10 markers and 11 caroms.

Notes:

➤ Reinforcement Senegalese Issa Gaye also contributed 6 points and 7 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

➤ The opening day loss is the first for coach Ayo under the UST squad as he once mentored the Letran Knights in the NCAA and the Green Archers in the UAAP.

➤ UAAP Juniors MVP CJ Cansino meanwhile led the losing Tigers with his stellar 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Renzo Subido copped 15 markers.

UAAP Finals 2017 News: Ateneo Blue Eagles took Game 1 of UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball Finals over the De La Salle Green Archers, 76-70, this Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Thirdy Ravena and the Nieto brothers led a balanced Blue Eagles attack to upset the breakout game of Archer Aljun Melecio, who dropped 24 points in Game 1. Ravena powered ADMU with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, while Mark and Mike Nieto contributed 11 respectively.

Notes:

Ateneo de Manila University now holds a 1-0 advantage over DLSU in their best-of-three UAAP finals series. Four Blue Eagles scored double digits with Ravena making 12, Mike and Mark Nieto with 11 each and Anton Asistio donning 10 markers.

Isaac Go was the accidental hero for Ateneo, sealing the victory for ADMU with an and-one play off the foul by Archer Kib Montalbo, pushing Ateneo to 76-70 within the last 10 seconds.

➤ The highly physical contest saw Mark Nieto falling to the floor from a wayward elbow courtesy of Ben Mbala. Both Mbala and Chibueze Ikeh were assessed technical fouls for unnecessary taunting in the second quarter. Likewise, Melecio got the unsportsmanlike foul in the same quarter.

➤ Melecio led the spirited Green Archers with 24 points on 5-of-13 shooting from rainbow country, while Rivero gave 10 markers and three caroms for DLSU. UAAP two-time MVP Mbala was held to only 8 points as he nursed his early foul woes throughout the game.

➤ De La Salle University and Ateneo will go at it again in Game 2 this Wednesday, November 29 at the Araneta Coliseum.
