PBA News 2018: Alaska Aces wrecked Magnolia Hotshots, 89-78, courtesy of another monster performance from Vic Manuel in Game 2 of their quarterfinals battle in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup this Tuesday at the Araneta Coliseum. Manuel finished with 22 points and 9 rebounds.

Notes:

Manuel notched a record 11 game streak of more than 20 points per game.

Chris Banchero also contributed 14 buckets, 4 boards and 3 dishes for the Aces.

➤ Journeyman reinforcement Wayne Chism chipped-in 20 points and 15 caroms for the eliminated Pambansang Manok.

PBA News 2018: GlobalPort Batang Pier shocked Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 114-113, and force a winner-takes-all in their best-of-three series in 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Quarterfinals this Tuesday at the Araneta Coliseum. Import Malcolm White paved the way for Batang Pier with his 28 points and 16 rebounds, while Jonathan Grey dropped the clutch three in the dying seconds of the game to finish with 22 points.

Notes:

GlobalPort and Rain or Shine are now tied 1-1 in their best-of-three quarterfinals showdown.
White was saddled with foul troubles and sat the game with 1:57 remaining in the 3rd before returning in the last 6:12 of the 4th quarter.
➤ The Painters led by as much 16 points in the 3rd canto but failed to sustain their charge and eventually lost steam in the final minutes of the game.

Stanley Pringle also contributed 21 markers, 9 caroms and 9 assists.

Reggie Johnson stood out for the Painters with his 24 buckets, 15 boards, and 7 dishes, while beanpole Raymund Almazan shared 17 points and 11 rebounds.

FIBA World Cup Under-17 News 2018: Batang Gilas humbled New Zealand, 73-51, and placed 13th overall in the 2018 FIBA World Cup Under-17 classification showdown this Monday in Santa Fe, Argentina. Towering 7’1 center Kai Sotto backstopped the young Gilas with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Notes:

➤ The 13th place finish of Batang Gilas is a new world record for the Philippines, as it finished 15th last 2014.

➤ Batang Gilas was on a hapless losing streak before defeating Egypt prior to Monday’s victory over New Zealand.

➤ No other Filipino player posted double digits in scoring aside from Sotto.

➤ Mitchell Dance led the losing Tall Blacks with 12 markers and 11 rebounds.

PBA D-League News 2018: Go for Gold Scratchers mangled the AMA Online Education Titans, 135-91, in the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup this Monday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig. Eric Pili dropped 25 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assits, while Kris Porter contributed a double-double of 20 buckets and 11 caroms.

Notes:

➤ The Scratchers are now 5-2 in the D-League Foundation Cup after the victory, while the Titans fell to the bottom of rankings as it lost its seventh-game straight.

➤ Andre Paras led the losing AMA with 23 markers and 14 boards.

➤ Go for Gold blitzed its way to post an insurmountable lead over AMA, 60-34 at the half. They eventually built a 53-point cushion over the Titans, 135-82 with barely two minutes left in the ballgame.

PBA News 2018: San Miguel Beermen smote the Talk ‘N Text KaTropa, 121-110, to steal Game 1 of their best-of-three showdown  in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Quarterfinals this Monday at the Araneta Coliseum. Import Renaldo Balkman roared with 36 monstrous points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals, while June Mar Fajardo added 27 buckets and 13 boards.

➤ San Miguel now leads 1-0 over TNT in the quarterfinals.

➤ Roger Pogoy consoled the losing KaTropa with 17 points. Reinforcement Joshua Smith meanwhile chipped-in 17 points and 8 rebounds. Veteran Fil-Am Kelly Williams also added 16 buckets – all on three point bombs.

➤ Reliable long-range sniper Marcio Lassiter also gave the Beermen 26 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

➤ The Beermen overcame a 23 point Talk ‘N Text lead, 23-46 in the second quarter.

➤ The quarterfinals game was controversial as Talk ‘N Text opted to protest the game which San Miguel won. Team Manager Virgil Villavicencio of TNT placed Game 1 under protest. No reasons were given yet as of press time.

PBA D-League News 2018: Marinerong Pilipino Skippers halted the Che’Lu Revellers, 91-83, in the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup this Monday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig. Jorey Napoles and Robbie Manalang teamed-up to lead the Skippers with 19 points apiece. Napoles also dabbled with double-double as he hauled 11 rebounds.

➤ Marinerong Pilipino now sports a 4-3 win-loss slate and currently ranks 3rd in the PBA D-League. Che’Lu Bar and Grill’s five-game win streak got halted with the loss as they fell to 5-2 record.

➤ Jeff Viernes powered the losing Revellers with 19 markers, while Jay Collado added 10 buckets.

MPBL News 2018: Bobby Ray Parks powered the Mandaluyong El Tigre over the Pasig Pirates, 98-55, in the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup this Thursday at the Blue Eagle Gym in Pasig. Parks registered a monstrous triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

Ray Ray Parks could have achieved a quadruple-double if he managed to get at least 3 more snatches after registering a game-high 7 steals.

Bernzon Franco provided relief to the losing Pirates with 15 markers.

➤ Celebrity cager Xian Lim managed to drop 6 buckets and 6 caroms.

➤ Mandaluyong raced to a 16 point lead and never looked back, and even led to as much as 50 at one point.
